supporting high priority environment related activities
It was launched in November 1997, in the Euro-Mediterranean Helsinki Conference as the environmental component of the Euro Mediterranean Partnership, preparing the ground for increased political dialogue and co-operation towards common environmental goals.
The SMAP Regional Management and Support Unit has been set up in February 2003 to strengthen SMAP processes through:
Dissemination of environment related information
Increased visibility of Euro Mediterranean co-operation
Promotion of environmental awareness
Enhanced co-operation among environment stakeholders
Reinforcement of project management capacities
